Old Salem Museums & Gardens

Just 1 hour and 257 years away.

Simply walk across a wooden covered bridge and you’ll be transported to a 1776 era Moravian village known today as the Old Salem Historic District. And when we say transported, we mean TRANSPORTED. You’ll wander past 18th century and post-statehood 19th century communal buildings, churches, houses and shops. Approximately 70% of the buildings in the historic district are original! Step inside them and you’ll find costumed tinsmiths, blacksmiths, cobblers, gunsmiths, bakers and carpenters, practicing their trades. They’ll be more than happy to take a short a break to tell you all about their life in Old Salem. A must-see is the Salem Tavern where George Washington stayed while on his “Southern Tour”.

You’ll also want to spend some time in the robust Visitor’s Center, the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts, and see the many gardens. There’s honestly so much to do, buying an all inclusive ticket will keep you (and your kids) fascinated and entertained for hours. Oh, and speaking of kids, there’s plenty of food and bev options on site to immerse yourself without having to leave the district.
